Bucknum Hits Track at Indy, Shows Speed Quickly

After being in Indianapolis for almost two weeks, Jeff finally got to do what he came here to do, start taking laps in his #92 Hemelgarn Racing, Life Fitness Dallara Honda in preparation for the 90th running of the Indy 500 on May 28th. Turning a mere 22 laps he reached 218.4 MPH before parking for the day to study the results and work with engineers to find the right setup to continue.

“I am pretty pleased with today but we have just begun”, stated Bucknum. “This run involved system checks, and allowed me to shake a few cobwebs. Tomorrow will be quite different as we start to develop the car and get ready to qualify on Saturday. We were fortunate to get our laps in before the rain returned. Now we sit down and get a plan together for tomorrow and Friday.”

“I have to thank the crew for putting a really good car under me. As soon as we finished the installation laps, I knew I was riding in a quality car. There are a few issues to work on tonight but we are in good shape to improve tomorrow and Friday. Ron (Hemelgarn) and his crew know their way around this race track and I am impressed with everyone’s efforts.”

Jeff is expected to take to the track tomorrow to continue his preparations. The track opens for practice at noon EDT both tomorrow and Friday, with Jeff still holding the first position for qualifying on Saturday. You can follow the action at IndyRacing.com.
