38 years ago Ronnie Bucknum rocked the world with a victory at the first high-banked Superspeedway event ever held for IndyCars at the inaugural Michigan International Speedway 250. The list of competitors is a Hall of Fame list including Mario Andretti, Johnny Rutherford, Bobby and Al Unser, and indeed Jeff Bucknum’s current team owner, AJ Foyt.

This Sunday Ronnie’s son, Jeff will compete in the Firestone 400 at Michigan International Speedway and represent ABC Supply in the  #14 AJ Foyt Dallara Honda. The 1968 event was an exploration of new ground as IndyCars had never raced on such a raceway. They put on a terrific show as Ronnie prevailed in a high speed event. This weekend will be new territory for Jeff as he has never raced on a two mile super speedway.

“Although I understand the significance of my Dad’s accomplishments at the first race here, and am proud of that achievement, it has little to do with my job this weekend,” said Bucknum. “My task is to serve the ABC Supply, AJ Foyt entry to the best of my ability. This crew has stood behind me and I want to reward them with a 100% effort on Sunday.”

“Each of the three races this year I have been in the #14 has created a unique challenge. Although they are all ovals, that is the only similarity. Nashville was a very fast, high-banked bullring, Milwaukee a flat mile, and Michigan a very high speed superspeedway. I am looking forward to learning the fast way around this historic race track.”

Practice begins Saturday morning with qualifying later Saturday afternoon (2:45pm EDT). The race will be televised live on ABC at 3:30 pm EDT, Sunday July 30. Timing and scoring and other live coverage is available at www.indycar.com.
