Bucknum Continues His Exploration of New Ovals at KentuckySome may believe that an oval is an oval is an oval. But Jeff Bucknum is well aware that there is at least as much variety in ovals as there is in road courses. His introduction to Kentucky Speedway for the Meijer Indy 300 Presented by Coca-Cola and Secret is just a continuation of the exploration of oval racing in the IndyCar Series. “Kentucky will be my sixth oval track in an IndyCar and each is a separate challenge,” stated Bucknum. “From Motegi to Indy, then Nashville, Milwaukee, Michigan and now Kentucky; each demands very different car setups and presents different driving situations. This is what makes the IndyCar Series so great and so challenging. Frankly I love that challenge.” The Kentucky Speedway is a very modern mile and a half track with banking up to 14 degrees. Lap speeds are well in excess of 210 mph and racing is in tight packs. “Obviously The ABC Supply, AJ Foyt team has a lot of experience there and that helps me a lot. Our engineer Len Paskus has also led efforts at Kentucky and knows that the bumps need to be managed to go fast. After our good run at Michigan I am looking forward to mixing it up even more at Kentucky,” continued Bucknum. The announcement at Michigan of the addition of Investment Properties of America and its affiliate companies as associate sponsors helps energize Jeff and the entire ABC Supply/AJ Foyt effort. “This is a growing effort and reinforces AJ’s commitment to direct his team to the front of the grid,” continued Bucknum. “I look forward to being part of his new successes.” This is a two-day show with just two forty-five minute practice sessions to get ready for qualifying. Qualification begins at 4:30 pm EDT on Saturday, August 12 and can be followed at www.indyracing.com. The race flags off at 3:30 pm EDT and will be televised live on the ABC network. As always, timing and scoring and audio will be available, also at www.indyracing.com. |
